Four Lashkar militants nabbed near Bombay

Four militants of the dreaded Lashkar-e-Tayiba group were arrested in Thane district, about 60 km from Bombay, on Wednesday night.

Backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence, the militants were on a mission to disrupt normal life in Bombay.

One AK-56 rifle, three magazines and three Pakistani hand grenades were recovered from them.

Police said the militants, nabbed from a hide-out in central Thane, were planning to eliminate some prominent personalities and attack important buildings in Bombay.

The leader of the group has been identified as Abu Saifullah alias Hamza Ali, a resident of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The other three are: Mohammad Yasin Fateh Mohammad and Mohamad Syed Niyaz, both from Faislabad and Mohammad Afzal Shahad from Lahore.

Afzal Shahad was based in Maharashtra for the past six months and was in possession of important maps such as that of Bombay High, RSS headquarters in Nagpur and Matoshree, the Bombay residence of the Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
