Liberhans summons Advani,
M M Joshi, Rao: PTI

The Liberhans commission of inquiry, probing events leading to the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya in December 1992, Thursday issued summons to Union ministers L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and then prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, calling them to depose before it as witnesses next month.

The commission, headed by Justice M S Liberhans, who recorded the statement of Union Sports Minister Uma Bharti, asked HRD Minister Joshi to appear on December 19 and 20 and Rao on December 26 and December 27. The commission also asked Home Minister L K Adavani to testify before it on December 29.

The three ministers are already charge-sheeted by the CBI.

The commission adjourned recording of Bharti's statement to December 12.

Bharti said that she was in favour of construction of the Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya but the issue, being "emotive", should be sorted out through dialogue.

"The ultimate solution to this issue can be attained only through dialogue and this has been the basis of my speeches on Ayodhya," she said.

"Some kind of sentiments of Hindus and Muslims have been involved in the issue and such a sentimental issue could only be resolved by their holy men and not by the courts," she said.
