Five militants, soldier killed in J&K

Three militants, including two activists of the Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed and three persons wounded in militancy-related incidents in the Kashmir valley on Monday, an official spokesman said.

Two Hizbul militants, one of them identified as Mohammad Abbass Wani, were killed by Rashtriya Rifles troops during search operations at Wahilbala in Anantnag district in south Kashmir early on Monday, he said.

Two AK assault rifles, six magazines and 30 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain ultras.

Security forces also killed a militant at Walterpora in Badgam district of central Kashmir on Monday.

He said militants shot at and critically wounded a counter-insurgent Abdul Hamid Bhat of Ikhwan outfit in Anantnag district on Monday afternoon. Bhat was rushed to army hospital for treatment.

Two security personnel were wounded when militants attacked their picket with a grenade at Firdous cinema in downtown Srinagar on Sunday evening, he said.

Two militants, suspected to be foreigners and a soldier were killed in the Jammu region, while security forces busted a militant hideout in Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Official sources Monday said security forces killed two suspected foreign militants in an encounter at Bandi Kamakhan village in Poonch district on Sunday evening and recovered some arms and ammunition.

Police also recovered the body of a Rashtriya Rifles soldier near Damati-Chenani Road in Udhampur district on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, troops busted a major militant hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in Fatehpur village near Rajouri on Sunday evening.

Three RPG rockets, three anti-tank grenades, 16 hand grenades and over 6000 rounds of various types of rifles were seized, the sources said.
