4 PWG activists killed in shootout on running train

Four activists of the People's War Group were killed and three police constables were injured in a shootout in a running train between Barwadih and Chipa Dohar railway stations of the Eastern Railways' Dhanbad division, a senior railway police official said Saturday.

The encounter took place Friday when the police tried to search the PWG cadres in the S-5 coach of the Jabalpur-Howrah Shaktipunj express.

One of them whipped out a pistol and opened fire injuring three constables. The police immediately retaliated killing four activists, Superintendent of Railway Police Bhageshwar Jha said.

The PWG gang, numbering around 10-15, had boarded the train at Barwadih station, he said.

Police recovered three bodies but that of the fourth was missing. It is believed that the PWG activists carried it away, he added.
