Govt asks MUL management to resolve labour unrest

Government on Saturday decided to call a meeting of the warring management and union of the leading automaker Maruti Udyog Limited in its bid to end the 45-day-long labour unrest.

Minister of State for Heavy Industries V B Kathiria took up the issue with MUL Managing Director Jagdish Khattar on behalf of the government, which has 50 per cent stake in the company.

The meeting between management and union representatives would resolve the impasse on the issue of pension and incentive schemes, ministry sources said in New Delhi on Saturday night.

Khattar declined to comment when asked if the minister had directed him to bring the union to the negotiation table to end the strike.
