IA's plea for sale of Kandahar plane rejected

A Patiala court Thursday rejected an application by the Indian Airlines seeking permission to sell the Airbus which was hijacked to Kandhar in December last.

Sessions Judge S N Aggarwal rejected the application after the defence counsel contended that since the case (of hijacking) was pending before the court, the aircraft, which flew as IC-814 from Kathmandu, was a case property and could not be sold as it may be required during cross examination.

The counsel objected to the IA having floated global tenders for the sale of the aircraft saying the airlines should have sought permission of the court before inviting tenders and that the IA's action amounted to contempt of court.
