BJP chief releases list of new office bearers

Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman, Friday released the much anticipated list of his new team of office bearers.

In the new scheme of things, former Delhi chief ministers Madanlal Khurana and Sahib Singh Verma will assume charge of West Bengal-Sikkim and Rajasthan respectively.

Senior leader V K Malhotra has been retained as in-charge of Delhi affairs while party vice-presidents Pyarelal Khandelwal and Kailashpati Mishra have been entrusted with responsibilities for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar respectively.

Senior vice-president Jana Krishnamurthy, general secretary Narendra Modi along with Khandelwal have been given overall organisational responsibilities. Krishnamurthy and Modi, who are also spokespersons for the party, have also been made incharge of Gujarat-Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh respectively.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will take care of the politically sensitive Jharkhand state while Maya Singh takes over Chhattisgarh. Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kailas Joshi will oversee Uttaranchal.

Madhya Pradesh is the only state which has no specific person nominated. The three office-bearers taking care of organisational matters will directly oversee the party affairs.

Party vice-president S P Gautam will look after Goa while former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde will look after Karnataka party matters.

Following is the list of other office bearers and their responsibilities:

Sunil Shastry (Assam), Padmanabha Acharya (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland), Ved Prakash Goyal (Kerala, Lakshadweep), Ramdas Aggarwal (Haryana, Chandigarh), Bapu Apte (Orissa), V Ramarao (Tamil Nadu), K N Lakshmanan (Andaman Nicobar and Pondicherry), O P Kohli (Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab), Kabindra Purakayastha (Tripura), and Ashwini Kumar (Andhra Pradesh).
