High-level team to visit Sikh massacre site

A high-level team is visiting Chattisingpora village in Jammu and Kashmir where 36 Sikhs have been massacred by Pak- trained terrorists.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Chamanalal Gupta, former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee leader Paramjit Singh Sarna and Delhi Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee leader Avtar Singh will participate in the bhog ceremony of those killed at the instance of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.

Former Delhi industry minister S S Balli and Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament S S Ahluwalia are the other members of the team.

The committee is to be briefed about the measures taken by the authorities to prevent the recurrence of such ghastly incidents.

The DGPC will provide Rs 200,000 each for the families of the victims as a token of sympathy. This is in addition to the ex-gratia announced by the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
