E-Mail this report to a friend

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The outlawed People's War Group of Naxalites has given a bandh call during the visit of American President Bill Clinton to Hyderabad on March 24.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner S R Sukumara said that the police have made elaborate security arrangements to deal with any law and order problem.

"The Left parties and some organisations have given a call for organising protest rallies, demonstrations and burning of effigies during the visit of the American president to the city on March 24. The PWG has also given a bandh call on March 24," he pointed out.

The commissioner said that "all these calls may throw up some security problems but we are ready with suitable action from our side to deal with any situation".

He, however, pointed out that the police have permitted the Communist Party of India-Marxist, Communist Party of India and seven other Left parties to organise a rally from Sundarayya Vignana Bhavan at Bagh Lingampally to Babu Jagjivan Ram circle at Basheerbagh which will culminate in a public meeting on March 24.

He said that some human rights groups have also been permitted to organise a protest meeting at Makhdoom Mohiuddin statue at Tank Bund. Both these places fall outside the VVIP route.
