6 extremists killed, 2 captured in Assam

At least six hardcore militants were killed and two others apprehended during a joint operation by the army and police in different parts of Assam on Sunday, official sources said.

A 'lance corporal' of the banned NDFB was killed in an encounter at Amlaiguri village, northeast of Kumrikhata, in Nalbari district. One 9mm pistol and ammunition were recovered from him.

Two other NDFB militants were killed in Chudra Paiah village near Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district. One pistol and ammunition were recovered from them.

One ULFA terrorist dressed in army fatigues was killed in Balabari village, on the eastern banks of the River Puthimari near Goreswar in Kamrup district.

In another incident, a hardcore NDFB militant was killed and two others were captured by soldiers at Polai village on the western banks of the River Ai in Kokrajhar district. One loaded 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition and a magazine was recovered from the slain militant.

Two other militants were apprehended during a joint operation by army and police at Maopar village in Dhubri district. They were identified as Musan Hirod Borgiary and Bari Ram Mocha.

Another hardcore ULFA extremist was killed at Mohkhowa village of Lakhimpur district. The extremist was identified as Binod Kuli, sources added.
