AP Congress MLAs suspended

E-Mail this report to a friend

All the 35 Congress members, including leader of the opposition Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, present in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, were suspended for a day today for obstructing the proceedings of the house.

They were suspended on a motion moved by state Legislative Affairs Minister Y Ramakrishnudu.

The main opposition Congress members stalled the proceedings for about two and a half hours, insisting that they be allowed to speak on an adjournment motion.

The motion was regarding the kidnapping of a Congress candidate allegedly by a ruling Telugu Desam Party legislator in the recent municipal elections in Dharmavaram town in Anantapur district.

Repeated appeals by Speaker K Pratibha Bharathi and Ramakrishnudu to the agitated Congress members to cooperate in the smooth conduct of the day's business fell on deaf ears.
