Shanmugham elected CLP chief in Pondicherry

Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee president P Shanmugham met Lt Governor Dr Rajani Rai on Sunday evening and handed over a letter informing her of his election as leader of the Congress Legislature Party and chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-led secular front.

He was accompanied by leaders of the Tamil Maanila Congress, the All India Anna DMK and the Communist Party of India.

Accepting the letter, Dr Rai informed the delegation that she would forward the letter to President K R Narayanan and as soon as she received a communication from him would invite Shanmugham to form the government.
