Nitish Kumar tables budget before trust vote

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today proposed a tax-free Rs 2.43 billion deficit budget for fiscal 2000-2001 in the state assembly amid protest from the major opposition parties who challenged the authority of the NDA government in undertaking the exercise.

Kumar laid a copy of his budget proposals in the house even as RJD leader Laloo Prasad Yadav protested against its presentation.

He said the government should present the budget only after seeking the vote of confidence in the floor of the house.

Congress leader Furkan Ansari also supported Yadav's view in this connection.

However, speaker Sadanand Singh did not take note of the Opposition's viewpoints.
