Centre may ask Gujarat to withdraw controversial order![]() The proceedings of the Lok Sabha remained paralysed for the 10th day as the defiant Opposition and the allies of the ruling National Democratic Alliance today stuck to their respective stands on the mode of discussion on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh issue leaving the Centre with the only option of persuading the Gujarat government to withdraw the circular. Indications are that the issue will be taken up by the Bharatiya Janata Party national leadership with its Gujarat state unit to find an amicable solution and ensure the restoration of the LS proceedings. RSS chief, Professor Rajendra Singh's statement distancing the organisation from the Gujarat order would facilitate a solution, according to one of the allies. Both at the meeting of Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi with the leaders of the Opposition parties and the dialogue Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had with the leaders of the allies, there was no meeting ground with the Opposition continuing to press for a discussion under rule 184. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said the government should be given a day to resolve the issue. The allies had told the prime minister at a separate meeting that the discussion should be only under rule 193 where there is no voting. A top leader of an ally told UNI that there were adequate indications during the meeting that the Gujarat government might be persuaded to withdraw the controversial order permitting government employees to join the RSS.
