10 militants shot dead in Kashmir![]() The border in Teetwal, Keran and Karnah sectors came under Pakistani shelling, and 10 militants were killed and a self-styled section commander nabbed in the valley during the past 24 hours. A report from Baramulla said Pakistani troops fired mortar and artillery shells at civilian and security installations in Teetwal, Keran and Karnah. Sources said shelling from across continued throughout the night. However, there was no casualty or damage to property. An official spokesman said security forces killed four militants in an encounter at Goran village early Tuesday morning during a search operation. Some arms and ammunition were recovered. Panic gripped the busy Hari Singh street this afternoon when militants hurled a grenade on a security force picket. However, it missed the intended target and fell in the nearby river Jhelum. The spokesman said security forces gunned down two militants, Abdul Rashid and Andarif Shah during an encounter at Dangernar, Bandipora, in north Kashmir Monday evening. Two houses were damaged in the shootout. However, villagers alleged that it was the mortars fired by the forces that damaged their houses. Two AK rifles, six magazines, 10 grenades and one wireless set were recovered from the slain militants. The spokesman said one militant each was killed by security forces in Ankol and Shilvat Sumbal during search operations Monday evening. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered. Militants threw a hand grenade at a security force picket in Bulbul Nowgam in south Kashmir Monday evening. But the grenade missed the target and exploded on the roadside, causing injuries to eight civilians and two pollice personnel, the spokesman said. He said militants killed a surrendered militant, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh, at Marhama. He said an encounter took place between militants and security forces during a search operation at Gundna Tuesday morning. A militant and a civilian woman died in the operation. He said security forces recovered two kg of explosives, five gelatine rods, two AK rifles, one pistol, 12 grenades and one wireless set during overnight operations at Khurhama and Batmaloo. He said forces captured a self-styled section commander of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen at Prang Kangan Tuesday. UNI
