E-Mail this report to a friend

A police officer was today arrested in Ajmer in connection with the death of a student leader in police custody even as the city continued to remain tense after the incident.

Circle Inspector Harsahay Meena, who along with six policemen were suspended yesterday after protests by students in the town, has been arrested, official sources said. In many parts of the town, groups of students went round protesting against the death of Dharmendra Meghvanshi.

Vehicles were damaged and stones were thrown at the police at some places, they said, adding that police used force to bring the students under control.

Additional forces have been sent from Jaipur and nearby Kishengarh town to maintain law and order.
