Kamla Bora in Jaipur

Curfew was imposed on Tonk city , about 82 km from here, after communal tension spread to more areas in Rajasthan, following yesterday's killings in Malpura.

Rapid Action Force personnel were sent from New Delhi to Malpura town.

With the recovery of two more bodies, the death toll rose to 10 in Malpura, where indefinite curfew was clamped Monday evening after clashes between Hindus and Muslims.

Home Minister Gulab Singh Shaktawat said in Jaipur that two persons were missing in Malpura.

Tension started brewing in more areas as news of the Malpura killings spread, forcing the administration clamp curfew in Tonk city and promulgate prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Toda Raisingh town.

Additional security forces were sent to Jhalawar district, where Chechat and Suket towns were tense. Kota and Baran districts, where a strict vigil is being maintained, were stated to be sensitive.

The Rajasthan government decided to hold an inquiry by the divisional commissioner of Jaipur and announced a cash relief to the next of kin of each victim.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sent Minister for Indira Gandhi Canal B D Kalla, Local Self Minister Shanti Dhariwal and Agriculture Minister Tayyab Hussain to Malpura for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party held the state government responsible for the Malpura killings and demanded the resignation of Gehlot.
