Vaishnodevi pilgrim gang-raped

E-Mail this report to a friend

Four people, including the owner of a hotel, have been arrested for raping a newly-married woman who had come to Jammu to visit Vaishnodevi.

A police spokesperson said the newly-married couple had hired a room in a local hotel on July 3. Following a phone call asking him to report for duty immediately, the husband, an army sepoy, left for Srinagar.

Taking advantage of the situation, the hotel owner Sanjay Kumar entered her room and allegedly raped her, the spokesperson added.

Another guest heard the lady's cries, but instead of helping her, he too raped her. Soon, one of Sanjay's friends, and a phone booth owner staying in the same complex also raped her.

For two days they kept the victim locked in a room and raped her repeatedly, police said, adding that she had managed to escape, and lodged a complaint at the Nowabad police station.

Police then raided the hotel and the hideouts of the accused and apprehended all four.
