NLFT guerrillas kill five

E-Mail this report to a friend

Four Central Reserve Police Force jawans were among five people killed and seven others were injured when the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura guerrillas ambushed a CRPF party escorting passenger vehicles in Dhalai district of Tripura on Saturday.

The CRPF party was escorting Ambassa-bound passenger vehicles. Before escaping, the ultras took away sophisticated guns and grenades from the slain soldiers.

Senior police and para-military officials along with additional security forces have rushed to the spot and launched a combing operation.

The slain soldiers- a lance nayak and three constables - have been identified as Ramdhan, Jamaluddin, Kuldip and Mukul Deb Sharma. The only civilian killed in the cross-fire was a driver.

The incident occurred at Barabari, about 100 km away from here, at about 0715 hrs.

This is the second major attack this year by the militants and first on the security forces. On January 8, NLFT guerrillas had shot dead five people and injured four at Karangichara under Khowai sub-division.
