Anju's stab injuries self-inflicted: cops

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Delhi police has said the stab injuries on Anju, wife of television producer Suhaib Illiyasi, who died under mysterious circumstances on January 10, were ''self-inflicted and suicidal in nature''.

Joint Commissioner (New Delhi range) R K Niyogi, who received the post-mortem and viscera reports on Tuesday evening, said the injuries were found to be ''self-inflicted and suicidal in nature''.

''The viscera report was found negative,'' he said.

''In view of this, we have decided not to register a case of murder against anybody in the case,'' Niyogi said.

The panel of doctors who had conducted the autopsy had not given the final report awaiting the analysis of the examination of the viscera which had been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

The basic purpose of examining the viscera was to see whether Anju had taken sedatives as reported.

In his statement after the incident, Iliyasi, producer of the television serial India's Most Wanted , had maintained that Anju had committed suicide after an argument with him over his friendship with a city businessman. Following the argument, Anju had stabbed herself twice with a kitchen knife, Ilyasi had told the police.
