Two BSF men killed in J&K blast

E-Mail this report to a friend

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Two Border Security Force men were killed and another seriously wounded in a powerful landmine blast at Pattan on the Srinagar-Uri highway this morning. A senior police official said that the militants detonated a powerful mine planted near a petrol pump.

The injured person was immediately rushed to the hospital. Senior police and security force officers along with reinforcements have rushed to the spot and the area has been cordoned off. Searches have been mounted in Pattan where a major portion of the main market was destroyed in a big blaze last week.

Two army soldiers were shot from close range last week by militants in the main market at Pattan. Both succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to the hospital.

A fire had started mysteriously in the Pattan market last week. The fire tenders had a difficult time in controlling the blaze. The residents alleged that the fire was started by the security forces. However, the army has denied the allegation saying the fire started following a shot circuit on an electric pole.

The state government has already ordered an enquiry. Security has been further tightened in Pattan town following today's blast.
