CPI-M leader shot dead in Tripura

The banned National Liberation Front of Tripura guerillas shot dead a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and kidnapped aother person and at Alutola in south Tripura on Wednesday night.

The police said CPI-M leader Narayan Chowdhury was travelling in a bus which was waylaid by armed militants, who then held him and another passenger at gun point and looted ornaments from a woman passenger.

They opened fire when Chowdhury tried to escape, killing him on the spot.

The security forces have launched a search operation. An Assam Rifles unit during their combing operations arrested three collaborators of militants from Jirania area of west Tripura district.
