Court says it's powerless on Chadha's plea for passportSpecial Judge Ajit Bharihoke Thursday observed it was beyond his jurisdiction to direct the government to issue a fresh passport to Dubai-based businessman Win Chadha to enable him to come to India. He was hearing the plea of Chadha's counsel regarding the issue. Chadha gave an undertaking in the court that he shall apply for an Indian passport within 48 hours from now and the government should ensure its expeditious issuance. Bharihoke noted the undertaking and asked the counsel to get back to the court by January 20. While hearing Chadha's counsel Gopal Subramaniam the judge said Chadha himself has to apply for the travel document. No order on the quashing of the non-bailable warrants were issued by the court as sought by Chadha earlier. Chadha says he is unable to respond to any warrants or summons in the absence of a passport. UNI
