Cinema hall showing Hey Ram ransacked

E-Mail this report to a friend

Hundreds of Youth Congress activists ransacked a cinema hall in south Calcutta on Tuesday for screening Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram, alleging the film had denigrated the image of the father of the nation.

The agitators attacked the Priya cinema near Deshaprita Park and damaged furniture and electrical fittings.

The show resumed later under police protection.

A Youth Congress leader alleged the film had insulted and denigrated Mahatma Gandhi.

A police picket has been posted near the hall to ensure the employees' security.

The Congress activists had disrupted the screening of the film at another theatre in north Calcutta on Monday.
