CVC probing defence deals on 'highest priority'The Central Vigilance Commission today said it was giving "highest priority" to investigating complaints about the presence of middlemen in defence purchases in violation of a ban in 1986 and "is anxious to submit its final report to the government as early as possible". "All details pertaining to specific instances cited in the course of discussions in Parliament and subsequently are also being investigated by the CVC," a press note issued by the commission said. The CVC also sought information from service personnel and the public on such allegations. The defence ministry recently asked the CVC to have such complaints raised in Parliament and in petitions filed in the Delhi high court investigated. Serving officers in the defence forces may give their observations after informing their immediate superiors so that there "is no violation of their conduct rules". The investigation will cover allegations levelled in the writ petition in the Delhi high court pertaining to the purchase of spares for the Navy for over a decade and the specific cases referred to it by the defence ministry, the CVC said. Details are being sought from the public and service personnel as "many people may have information and ideas about specific instances covered by the CVC invesgitation", the commission said. "As the CVC is giving the highest priority to the investigation and is anxious to submit its final report to the government as early as possible, early comments and suggestions will be very much appreciated," it said.
