BJP MLA's kin arrested for kidnapping womanA relative of the MLA of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh kidnapped a woman in Lucknow today. Rajesh Singh, the nephew of Badshah Singh, BJP legislator from Hamirpur, was arrested shortly afterwards at the official flat allotted to the MLA in the state's officer's hostel. The MLA was stated to be out of station at the time of the incident. According to the police, Rajesh Singh had been stalking the woman, an employee in the State Bridge Corporation for the past few months. Rajesh allegedly even proposed to her. However, after the woman, who was married, rebuffed him, he threatened her with dire consequences. She received a threatening call from him in the morning. Shortly thereafter he went to her officer and warned her that if she refused to marry him, he would kidnap her. The terrorised woman requested her office for transport to take her home, because she wanted to get back to her five-year-old daughter. But on the way back, Rajesh Singh and two others stopped the vehicle and took the woman away in a hired van at gunpoint. The driver of the Bridge Corporation vehicle immediately reported the matter to the nearest police station and the police, moving quickly, tracked the kidnappers down in one-and-a-half hours. He was arrested together with his accomplices. The woman was in a state of shock as she had been badly beaten by Rajesh and his accomplices. Rajesh, a second year LLB student at Lucknow University, later allegedly told before the police that he was not aware that the woman was married. "Because she behaved brusquely with me, I decided to teach her a lesson," he reportedly told the police. |
