More statues disfigured in Kerala

E-Mail this report to a friend Kollam, Feb 19 (UNI) Miscreants today desecrated one more statue of saint-philosopher Sree Narayana Guru in Athinad in the Karunagapally police station limits.

Police said miscreants damaged the statue, erected near the local office of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, early this morning. The glass panes around the statue were smashed and the head of the statue broken to pieces. The Karunagapally police has registered a case. This is the fourth such incident reported from Kollam district in the last one month.

Yesterday, another unit of the religious leader was damaged in Neyyattinkara in Trivandrum district.

The police said unidentified miscreants smashed the glass panes of the 'gurumandiram' early on Friday. No arrests have been made.

The first such incident was reported in the night of February 1, when members of the Students Federation of India, the students' wing of the Communist Party of India-Marxist, allegedly forced the principal of the Kollam S N College to sign an agreement.

Over the next few days, more statues were damaged in Kollam and Alappuzha districts.

While the police were yet to arrest the culprits, political parties have been blaming each other for the incidents.
