Six ISI operators arrested in Rajasthan

The Rajasthan police have busted a network of spies working for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.

The special branch of the criminal investigation department arrested six operators, including a woman, and recovered several sensitive defence documents on February 10, a police spokesman said in Jaipur.

While three of them, including a husband-wife team, were taken into custody in Jaipur, the others were arrested from Alwar.

Giving details about their operation, the spokesman said Babu Khan alias Sabir and his wife Mariyam used to get defence documents from Idris, Issak, Issab and Fazru.

The police first nabbed the couple while taking delivery of documents from Issak alias Ashok Kumar Yadav in Jaipur. On the information supplied by them, the rest were arrested.

The documents seized included a log sheet of the Indian Air Force, photocopies of papers from Alwar Cantonment, details of army exercises like Operations Vijay and Shiv Shakti, and details of army weaponry, the spokesman said.

Babu Khan, he said, confessed to spying for Pakistan and that he used his wife as a courier to one Asif in Karachi and Lahore.

Mariyam told the police that she had returned from Pakistan on January 5. She had also travelled there in August and September last year.

She also stated that she visited Pakistan on a forged passport, purportedly issued from the Lucknow passport office, the spokesman added.

All the arrested have been sent for further interrogation after registering a case under Section 3/9 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 120 of the Indian Penal Code.
