E-Mail this report to a friend

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Six persons, including two special police officers, were gunned down by militants who entered their houses at Palpora Pattan in north Kashmir and sprayed bullets.

Police said the extremists forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Mohammad Reshi, an SPO, at Palpora late last night and fired indiscriminately on the inmates, killing him and his two daughters on the spot. Another of Reshi's daughters, identified as Posha Bani, is also an SPO, but she is currently posted at Baramulla.

The militants then escaped under cover of darkness. But two hours later they reappeared in the village. This time they forced their entry into the house of Assadullah War and fired indiscriminately with automatic weapons, killing three persons, including two children.

War died later in hospital of his injuries. Three women, Saja Bano, Mumtaza and Tehmina, were critically injured and have been shifted to hospital.

No group has yet owned responsibility for the attacks.
