Three killed, 49 injured in bomb blasts in Lanka

Two bombs exploded in two state-run inter city buses, on Tuesday night, killing three people and injuring 49, the police said. Both the incidents took place more or less at the same time.

In the first case at Mabole, about 20 km from Colombo, two people were killed and 30 wounded. The bomb went off at around 10:30 hrs (local time), in a Negombo-bound inter city express bus. The injured were admitted to the hospital. The condition of three of them is reported to be critical.

In the second incident at 11:15 hrs (local time), a bomb exploded in a bus at the central bus stand at Petta, in which 19 were injured. One person succumbed to injuries later. A spate of blasts in passenger buses have been reported during the past few days from various parts of the country. More than 60 people have been injured in five such blasts.
