No-trust motion against
Meghalaya ministry defeated

The opposition sponsored no-confidence motion against the nine-month-old E K Mawlong led Meghalaya Parliamentary Forum coalition ministry was defeated by voice votes.

The no-confidence motion was moved by C R Marak (Garo National Council), R G Lyngdoh and F W Momin (both Congress).

Moving the motion, Momin said during the last nine months the Mawlong ministry has failed in all aspects, including tackling the law and order problems and resolving the boundary problems with Assam.

Momin said as soon as the chief minister assumed office he announced that the border problems with Assam would be solved within three months and the area of block one and two of Karbi Anglong district of Assam would be transferred to Meghalaya.

But nothing had been done so far, he said.

On the ban on outfits ANVCN and HNLC, he said it would not solve the insurgency problem, rather innocent people would be harassed.
