8 suspects in TN murder case held

Our Correspondent in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu

Eight persons have been held in connection with a controversial murder, which was feared to have communal hues, in Palayamkottai of Tamil Nadu.

On December 9, unidentified men threw bombs at a mosque damaging its outer wall.

The mob came out of nowhere and threw crude bombs at the mosque early on Sunday morning in Palayamkottai in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli district.

The attackers also stabbed a man to death inside the mosque.

The murder had created a flutter with the police fearing that it must have been done with the intention of triggering communal clashes.

However, investigations have revealed that it was a case of personal vendetta.

The victim was allegedly having an illegitimate affair with a widow from his native village, Puliyangudi, about 40 km away from the scene of the crime.

Among the suspects are some relatives of the widow who were unhappy with the goings-on and, hence, decided to kill the victim.
