E-Mail this report to a friend

The Madhya Pradesh forest department's wildlife team has shot dead a jackal in the grassland surrounding the airstrip at Bairagarh airport in Bhopal on Tuesday night.

The help of wildlife experts has been sought by the Airport Authority of India to remove a pack of jackals from the premises of the airport.

According to sources, the experts did not intend to kill the jackal. However, an additional dose of tranquiliser cost him his life, they added.

Two teams, one each from Van Vihar, Bhopal, and Kanha National Park, have been deputed by the forest department to trap about 25 to 30 jackals, who had been seen roaming on the run way for the past few days, the sources said.

Meanwhile, a meeting of Indian Airlines and AAI officials took place on Wednesday. Apparently, they reviewed the progress of Operation Jackal.
