4 held for food poisoning in Bhopal

At least 1000 persons, who were admitted to hospitals in Bhopal on Wednesday, following food poisoning, were discharged on Thursday.

They had consumed singhara ka aata [a dish consumed to end fasting] during Janmashtmi celebrations.

All were discharged early in the morning after their condition was reported to be normal.

The police have sealed the shop from where the dish had been purchased and an inquiry has been ordered.

Police have arrested four shopkeepers for selling contaminated flour.

The victims, most of whom were children and women, started complaining of nausea and giddiness after they had consumed the dish to break their fast on Janmashtmi.

As news of more people complaining of blurred vision, loose motions and vomiting spread, panic griped Bairagarh, the satellite township of Bhopal where the incident was reported.

The police denied reports that nearly 3000 people had been affected by the food poisoning.
