'Pak shifting river course towards India'

E-Mail this report to a friend

Satellite pictures suggest that Pakistan is constructing embankments and is taking flood protection measures on the River Ravi, to force it to shift its course towards India, which could endanger border outposts during the monsoons, minister of state for water resources Bijoya Chakravarty informed Parliament on Tuesday.

Work to counter possible adverse effects to the Indian side have been undertaken by the Punjab government in border areas, including Gurdaspur, Chakravarty told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The government had taken suitable measures in consultation with the border authorities, she added.
