Two more Deendar Anjuman activists nabbed for church blastsTwo more Deendar Anjuman activists were nabbed - one in Hyderabad and another at Nanded in Maharashtra - in connection with a series of blasts in churches recently in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Sleuths of the Crime Investigation Department of Andhra Pradesh arrested Shaikh Hashim Ali (24), a videographer and resident of Asifnagar area in Hyderabad, at Imlibun bus stand on Thursday, a police spokesman said. In Nanded town, police arrested city chief of the Deendar Anjuman Trust, Barkat (40), on August 14 for his alleged involvement in the church blasts, the District Superintendent of Police Amitabh Gupta informed on Thursday. Following the interrogation of Ali, who was allegedly involved in planting a bomb in a church at Medak on May 28, police recovered a Hero Honda motorcycle used while committing the offence, certain documents, gelatin sticks and electric detonators, the police spokesman said. With the latest arrests, the total number of persons apprehended in connection with the blasts in churches rose to 27 in Andhra Pradesh. Though Barkat, a resident of Nanded for the past 25 years, had attended two meetings in Hyderabad it was yet to be ascertained whether he had played any direct role in the bomb blasts, Gupta said. Barkat was handed over to the Andhra Pradesh police on Thursday for further interrogation, he said. RELATED REPORT
