BJP legislator takes oath in Vajpayee's name

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bharatiya Janata Party legislator, H S Shankaralinge Gowda, today created a flutter in the Karnataka Assembly when he took oath as a member of the house in the name of Prime Minister A B Vajpayee.

Gowda, representing Chamaraja in Mysore, also mentioned the names of former chief minister Kengal Hanumanthaiya, the architect of Vidhana Soudha, and goddess Chamundeswari, in his oath.

The reference to Vajpayee was strongly objected to by Janata Dal (s) leader Mallikkya Guttedar and some members from the treasury benches who immediately stood in protest.

Gowda insisted that he would take oath in the name of Vajpayee and urged protem speaker Azeez Sait that the name of the prime minister should not be removed from the record.
