Jayalalitha aide R K Kumar dies of heart attack

Former Union minister and All India Anna DMK Rajya Sabha member R K Kumar in Madras here this afternoon, following a massive heart attack. He was 57. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Kumar, a chartered accountant by profession, suffered a massive heart attack and died before treatment at the private Apollo Hospital and was brought dead to the hospital at 1340 hrs, hospital sources said.

Kumar had served as minister of state for finance and revenue in the Vajpayee government. However, after a couple of months, he was asked to resign from the ministry by AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha for his alleged failure to bail out her and her close aide Sasikala from the income-tax and FERA violation cases faced by them.
