Ex-president's son-in-law gets bail in Jessica case

Former president Shanker Dayal Sharma's son-in-law Shyam Sunder Sharma was released on bail yesterday in the sensational Jessica Lal murder case.

He was arrested by the Delhi police on Thursday night for harbouring key accused in the case, Manu Sharma alias Siddharth Vashist. He also faces charges of tampering with evidence and criminal conspiracy under sections 201, 212 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.

Shyam Sunder Sharma, who is an uncle of the prime accused, was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate V K Khanna yesterday. He was released on bail on furnishing a bond of Rs 25,000 and two sureties of like amount.

The police have questioned a few others and are expected to interrogate some of Manu's close associates. Some more arrests are likely, sources indicated.

The police are still in search of a .22 pistol, allegedly used for murdering the model in a Delhi restaurant. Manu had left the weapon with his friend Titu, who is now in New York.
