The Centre has summoned the chief secretary and the director general of police of Bihar for urgent consultations to draw up an action plan to tackle the menace of private armies and extremist groups in the state.

Talking to the media, Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said the Centre is ready to provide all possible help to the state government to ensure peace and tranquillity in the caste-ridden Jehanabad district, which witnessed unprecedented violence in the past few months.

He said that Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Laloo Prasad Yadav had called him, seeking additional police forces to restore peace in the troubled areas.

The Centre has already decided to send 10 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force to Bihar to help the state government tackle the situation, he said.

He reiterated that the state government had enough central forces at its disposal.
