UP arrests show Pak angle to criminal activities

E-Mail this report to a friend

Of the more than 160 foreign nationals arrested over the past few years in Uttar Pradesh for various crimes, about 50 were Pakistanis.

The crimes range from murder to fraud to drug-trafficking and gunrunning,

The Pakistanis were mainly arrested from the communally-sensitive cities of Allahabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Aligarh and Ferozabad, under the provisions of Arms Act, Passport Act and Narcotics Act, according to the data available with the state headquarters, updated till September 30, 1998.

More than 40 Nepalis were arrested from Bahraich, Gorakhpur and other cities along the Indo-Nepal border, most of them under the Narcotics Act, substantiating the argument that India was being used as a conduit for trafficking of drugs.

Of the rest, 12 were from Bangladesh and some from African countries.
