Ramamurthy defends Thambi Durai

E-Mail this report to a friend

Union Petroleum Minister and Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress president Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy today defended Union Law Minister M Thambi Durai's communication to the acting chief justice of Madras high court on Justice C Shivappa's case.

He criticised a section of lawyers and the media for highlighting the procedures adopted in issuing the communication and ignoring the essence of the order.

It is a fact that the judge had manipulated his date of birth and the President had determined the original date, he said.

"Procedural niceties should not overshadow the content of the order," he added.

A section of the high court lawyers had boycotted court proceedings yesterday in protest against the "impropriety" in the communication.
