Rajnikanth to stay neutral this election

E-Mail this report to a friend

Super star Rajnikanth, who had campaigned for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-Tamil Maanila Congress front in the 1996 general elections and 1998 Lok Sabha elections, today said he would not support any particular party in the coming Lok Sabha poll.

Talking to newspersons at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai, the actor recalled that he had been one among the many factors which had brought the DMK and TMC together for a common cause in 1996, namely to oust the then AIADMK regime led by J Jayalalitha.

Rajnikanth said he did not like his name or photograph to be used by any political party in the campaigning.

His fan clubs should also not lend his name or photograph to any political party or outfit for campaigning. Fan clubs which violated this would have to pay a "severe price," he warned.

The film star said he was grateful to Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi and TMC President G K Moopanar for having helped him during certain difficult circumstances in the last few years .
