Congress re-nominates Tiwari for MP assembly speaker's election
Veteran Congress politician Sriniwas Tiwari has been nominated to contest for a second consecutive term as speaker of the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly).
There was speculation that the party was thinking of a change. But Congress sources said Tiwari's name had been cleared by the high command itself.
Earlier, Governor Bhai Mahavir had appointed Tiwari, who was the speaker of the tenth Vidhan Sabha, as pro-tem speaker of the eleventh Vidhan Sabha.
The first session of the newly constituted house begins on Monday, February 1. The election of the speaker has been listed for February 2.
Tiwari, who represents Mangawan assembly constituency in the Vindhya region, was elected to the Vidhan Sabha for the seventh time in November 1998.
