Prayer hall attacked

Two attacks on prayer halls were reported from Surat district yesterday, the police said yesterday. Twenty-five persons have been arrested so far in this connection. The situation in the strife-torn Dangs district, meanwhile, was slowly returning to normal.

Police said over 20 people attacked two prayer halls in the Doswada village of Songadh taluka after midnight. They smashed the roof tiles and thatched walls of the prayer halls, located on the either side of the Khatibore Falia area of Doswada village.

The police said that according to a complaint filed by Pastor Ramesh Shamji Gamit at Songadh, the miscreants also barged into the prayer hall and damaged furniture, photos and a wooden cross.

The Songadh police has registered offences against these 25 persons. Two platoons of the Special Reserve Police Force have been rushed to the area from Ukai. District superintendent of police, rural, B D Waghela, and other senior district officials are camping at Songadh. The situation is under control, the police said.
