Orissa high court calls for Anjana's case diary

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Orissa high court today adjourned till January 27 the hearing in the Anjana Mishra rape case.

A division bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice P K Mishra, who heard counsels for both Mishra and the state government, ordered that the case diary and other records pertaining to the investigation of the gang-rape be presented to it on that day.

Anjana's counsel strongly opposed an inquiry by the crime branch of the Orissa police and demanded a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe instead.

On the other hand, Advocate General Gobind Das, appearing for the state government, said it had no objection to whatever the court decided in the public interest.

The judges also sought to know from the two parties their reaction if the court decides to monitor the investigation. An affidavit to this end is to be submitted by January 25.

The CBI has already told the court in response to a query that it has no objection to investigate the case.
