Kumaratunga sworn-in as president

Chandrika Kumaratunga was today sworn-in as the president of Sri Lanka.

Chief Justice Sarat N Silva administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kumaratunga at a function at Temple Trees, her official residence, at 1430 hours. Earlier a declaration announcing her victory was read out.

Her entire former cabinet was also sworn in before a distinguished gathering in Colombo.
