The Vajpayee government today said legal action would be taken against some former prime ministers unless they cleared their dues for using Indian Air Force aircraft for non-official purposes.

Additional Solicitor General S R Jaisinghani told the Delhi High Court that no concessions would be made and the government would charge as per the norms. Nearly Rs 140 million are due from former prime ministers H D Deve Gowda, P V Narasimha Rao, Chandra Shekhar and Rajiv Gandhi.

While in Gandhi's case the respondent is his wife and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in other cases respective political parties have been sent the notices.

Informing the court that some political parties had sought some concessions, he said the government would wait till December 31 before taking any legal action.

He was submitting before a division bench comprising Justice Arun Kumar and Justice D K Jain. The hearing followed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate B L Wadhera.
