RJD wants income tax notice against Laloo withdrawn

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Rashtriya Janata Dal members in the Lok Sabha today demanded that an income tax notice served on their party chief Laloo Prasad Yadav in connection with the expenditure incurred on his daughter's marriage should be withdrawn.

The RJD members, including Ram Prasad Singh and Kanti Singh, walked into the well of the House during zero hour when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declined to respond to their demand.

Ram Prasad Singh, waving a copy of the newspaper which had carried a report about the notice served on Yadav, said it was done deliberately to damage the image of a backward class leader. He was joined by his party colleagues who said there was nothing unusual about the marriage reception or the number of guests who were invited to attend the ceremony in Patna.

Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed, who was in the chair when the point was raised, said he could not force the government to respond.
