Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Deputy Superintendent of Police (operations) Kuldeep Singh was killed early this morning when militants fired rockets at his residence in Pattan in Baramullah district.

Jammu and Kashmir police sources said the killing was a serious setback to anti-militancy operations in the area.

The sources said the attack occurred during the wee hours today. Singh's residence suffered ''extensive damage''.

Top officials have rushed to the spot and the area has been cordoned off to nab the militants.
